Underworld: Evolution. Why do they call a movie which should just have been called Underworld II by a title that no one ever actually uses? Underworld Evolution picks up roughly where Underworld left off. There really is no point to watching Underworld Evolution unless you have seen Underworld because you really will be lost. The back story is covered just enough to remind fans of the first movie of the highlights of that movie and that’s about it.
If you haven’t seen the first movie you will be lost, disappointed and maybe a little pissed off watching Underworld Evolution. If you have seen the first movie then you should enjoy the second. Underworld Evolution is not as slick or coherent as the first installment though the CGI is slightly superior as one would expect as the science of CGI never pauses for more than a heartbeat from one movie to the next.
The delectable Kate Beckinsale returns as Selene accompanied once again by Scott Speedman as Michael Corvin. The battle between Lycan and Vampire has evolved into a battle between Marcus the original founder of the Vampire coven, the hybrid Corvin who possesses the amulet once possessed by Lucian the leader of the werewolves. It turns out the amulet is a key and Marcus will do anything he can to possess it.
The evolution part of Underworld Evolution comes not just with the evolved character of Michael Corvin but also in the evolving character of Selene and if we take our hints from actual plot elements their child to be. Is it possible that there will be a third Underworld installment – it seems pretty likely the series has plenty of room to grow.
