One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest Blu-ray
Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, Brad Dourif
Directed by Milos Forman
Originally released 1975
Warner Home Video 2010

This is the second One Flew Over the Cuckoons Nest Blu-ray version. In 2008 this Jack Nicholson Milos Forman classic was released as a digibook. This time around the winner of 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture (1975) comes as a box set with a hardcover photo style booklet, a patient file envelope with pictures of the stars, and a deck of illustrated One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest playing cards where Nicholson is the aces and not the jacks.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is still a gripping movie but it has lost a lot of its punch. North America has pretty much deinstitutionalized everybody, given them an invisible cell phone to talk to their voices, and set them free on the streets of big cities and in various shelters. The immediacy of the movie's central events is no longer there.

This said, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is still a great movie. Nicholson plays McMurphy, an antisocial guy who was sent to a prison farm but arranged to be sent to a mental institution instead, thinking it would make for an easier 90-day stay.

There he meets the various patients, some played by Danny De Vito and Christopher Lloyd of Taxi and some by real patients, and eventually leads a revolt against the head nurse, Nurse Ratched. Oddly enough this is what seems to rehabilitate him but this is not your usual Hollywood movie so things do not have a predictable ending.

Louise Fletcher created a whole new type of villain in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and deservedly got an Academy Award, as did Nicholson, and Forman.

Special Features on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Blu-ray are Completely Cuckoo - A feature-length documentary about the making of the film; Full-length commentary by director Miloš Forman and producers Michael Douglas and Saul Zaentz; Brand new interview with producer Michael Douglas; Deleted Scenes; Original Trailer
