Scooby-Doo Where Are You The Complete Series makes for a really cool Christmas present for anyone into TV cartoons. The 8 DVD come in an accordion holder that fits neatly inside the Mystery Machine with Shaggy and Scooby in the front seat. Be careful handling the folder. There are 41 episodes from the 3 seasons of this seventies cartoon. The eighth DVD has the special features which are about the creation of the show and a feature with the actors who profide the voices for Shaggy, Scooby-Doo, Velma, Fred, and Daphne.
The odd spelling mistake aside (as in Cemetary in To Switch a Witch, Season 3 DVD 1) Scooby-Doo Where Are You? makes for very entertaining TV. Seasons 1 and 2 are somewhat better than season 3 which was created eight years later. The picture quality for the season one and 2 episodes is very good but shows a bit more background dust than in season 3. The season three shows look glossier but the animation is more generic and you can tell they are reusing cells.
If you have not owned a TV like ever (Zoinks!) Scooby-Doo Where Are You is the story of Shaggy, his dog Scooby-Doo, and friends Fred, Daphne, and Velma. They are always driving around in bad weather conditions, get lost, and come across some creepy thing, creature, or person who warns them of a curse or something. They investigate, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo do most of the work and slapstick comedy, the mystery is solved, and the bad guys are captured.
It does get a little repetitive but then again you are not supposed to watch all 41 episodes of this seventies cartoon in one or two sittings.
This is an excellent cartoon DVD set and you'll make someone happy if you get it for them.
