All The President s Men Blu-ray Digibook
Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman, Jason Robards
Directed by Robert J Pakula
Originally released 1976
Warner Home Entertainment 2011
128 minutes

The scary thing about All The President s Men is is the dirty tricks Nixon s people are said to have used during the campaign are nothing compared to what Bush s people did to get George 2 elected.

You certainly need to have a taste for the police procedural at its most minutiae oriented to enjoy All the President s Men. This seventies classic and 10 Academy Award nominee and winner of 4 has stood the test of time and is now available on Blu-ray in the Digibook format. All the President s Men looks great on Blu-ray but there are a couple of instances, such as the library of Congress scene, where the bass notes are distorted.

All the President s Men tells the true story of Washington Post reporters Carl Woodward (Redford) and Bob Bernstein (Hoffman). There is a break in at the Watergate Hotel. Woodward finds it odd that a high-priced lawyer is representing the small-fry burglars. He follows up on the story and it turns out to be a bit more. Bernstein is also assigned to the story. As both men tug on the story string more and more of it unravels until President Nixon becomes part of it and is forced to resign.

It is clear Robert J Pakula wants to show how tedious and frustrating investigating the Watergate break-in was for Woodward and Bernstein. It is an important part of the whole picture but a viewer does get weary after a while and looks forward to some big break in the story. The fact that a lot of All the President s Men is very low key also puts a demand on the viewer.

Special Features for All the President s Men Blu-ray are Telling the Truth About Lies: The Making of All the President's Men; Woodward and Bernstein: Lighting the Fire; Out of the Shadows: The Man Who Was Deep Throat; Commentary by Robert Redford; Vintage Featurette Pressure and the Press: The Making of All the President's Men; Vintage Jason Robards Interview Excerpt from Dinah!, Hosted by Dinah Shore; Alan J.
