Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse

Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse is a wild ride of a wild post apocalyptic tale. This Victor Gischler novel is an over the top action movie on paper. It is also a very enjoyable, compulsive, lightweight, fun read.

Mortimer Tate went up the mountain to his cabin in the woods to hide from his wife so he would not have to sign the divorce paper. He equipped himself like a survivalist. Nine years later three hunters come by. Mort shoots first, can’t ask questions later, and decides to make his way down the mountain. He learns pretty much everybody and everything got wiped out in WW III and it is every man for himself. Mort decides to find his ex wife if it is the last thing he does.

Mort teams up with a guy who looks like Buffalo Bill and a young woman named Sheila. His quest takes him to Joey Armageddon’s Sassy A Go-Go chain of inns and from there through wild country that includes various gangs, a bunch of cannibals, an asylum headed by a guy who did his own sex change operation, and finally the lair of the Red Czar, Joey Armageddon’s nemesis.

Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse is the kind of book you just go along with. Gischler immediately makes you feel you are in very capable hands and his original, darkly funny story is addictive.
