Finn the Human and Jake the Dog are back for another season of random and bizarre adventures in season 2 of Adventure Time. They are back fighting the Ice King, as well as encountering new and strange foes to take on in the 26 episodes that make up this second set of DVDs.
These stories are as unusual as the first season’s were, but the series seems to be growing on me. My kids still enjoy the wackiness of the storyline, the characters, and the adventures in the land of OOO. They are at an age where they don’t mind some unpredictability in their stories. I am also starting to ‘get into’ the story a little bit more. Perhaps it is because I now expect the unexpected, or I am simply used to the craziness, but I must say that I like it.
There are a couple of episodes that I find a little frightening – the way the ‘bad guys’ and their lair are depicted could give the more sensitive soul a few bad dreams – so again I would rate this animated show for the 10 years and over crowd.
I am really beginning to appreciate the randomness of the events in the stories. It is really a case of ‘anything goes’. It is that zaniness that makes the show funny and entertaining. The good news is that Finn and Jake learn something and come out on top.
I was a little disappointed in the special features on this disc, they had interviews with the crew of Adventure Time, but there was no real content. Essentially they sat down at a little desk and gave their job title, and then were filmed watching a (unseen by us) video. That’s it. Clearly not geared towards kids.
I would say that if your kids liked the first season of Adventure Time, they will also enjoy this season, and it may even get you hooked too.
