This review includes 8 Josie and the Pussycats clips. Hold on to your hats groovy people, Josie and the Pusssycats are here on DVD. This compilation 2 disc set is the total collection of the cartoon version of the comic book series found in Archie comics. There are a total of 16 episodes in this set -I really thought the series had more shows--and those who loved the comic will enjoy the cartoon as well.
Josie and the Pussycats is a really fun blast from the past. The 16 episodes on this 2 DVD set are great. They are cheesy and groovy and really a product of their times. Each episode features Josie, her all girl band (The Pussycats: Melody and Valerie), the band's manager Alex (and his sister Alexandra) and Josie's boyfriend Allen travelling around on a world tour. In each city they visit for a musical engagement, they inevitably get involved in a mystery that needs to be solved. They go everywhere from Hong Kong to San Francisco and many places in between.
These cartoons are just plain fun. This is really a look into the past, with all the political incorrectness that it holds (think mini skirts in the middle east). Josie is fun, Melody is a real ‘dumb blonde', Valerie is clever. Alex is the bumbling manager, and Alexandra is the jealous hanger on who is always trying to break up Allen and Josie. The sixteen episodes of Josie and the Pussycats are silly and fun and innocent. The only distraction comes in the similarity of the look of the characters to those of Scooby Doo characters (even some of the voices are the same), also a Hanna Barbera cartoon. All four of my kids noticed it right away and called the Josie characters by the Scooby names. Even the insults are funny (ding a ling, creep) and things that you just don't hear anymore.
The small distraction aside, Josie and the Pussycats The Complete Series is a worthwhile addition to a classic cartoon collection
