The Care Bears originally started more than 25 years ago as a greeting card line, and have since branched into other areas notably TV and (now) DVDs. The "Sharing in the Sunshine" DVD is a compilation of four 12-minute episodes of the TV program that was originally made in the mid '80s.
The 4 episodes on this Care Bears Sharing in the Sunshine DVD include: The Show Must Go On - about a little girl who is upset with her father for working so hard and missing her pageant; Concrete Rain - with a self-centred little girl who is only interested in making her life more fun; The Girl Who Cried Wolf - about a little girl who is always lying to ‘have fun'; and Dry Spell - a young brother and sister get lost in a cave while trying to solve their city's water problem.
This is a nice little DVD with 4 complete and stand-alone episodes (great for when you have to stop and come back later). The messages are simple and easy for younger kids to catch; the Care Bears and the Care Bear Cousins (other animals than bears) are helpful and well, caring. The young kids presented make typical kid mistakes (selfish behaviour, taking jokes too far) and get the supportive push in the right direction from the Care Bears. It's one of the things that I liked about this DVD - the Care Bears show the kids the "right" way to go, but don't force the kids to action, unless they make that decision themselves.
One thing that I wasn't too fond of was the actual situations that the kids get themselves into...one little girl runs away, while another crawls out her bedroom window after she is grounded by her parents...quite honestly scary for a parent to contemplate.
My 3-year-old son and I like watching this DVD together, and he has already asked to watch it "again, Mommy". The Care Bears are cute, the messages are good, and the stories give you something to talk about, especially what not to do when you get into trouble.
