“My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.” is a line that brings warm smiles to anyone who has seen Rob Reiner’s The Princess Bride. Now avalailable in a Blu-ray / DVD set, The Princess Bride is one of those perennial movies everybody who has seen it loves. It is also a rarity as anyone be it kids, guys, ladies, or old folks find this movie absolutely charming, original, and fun to watch. It looks especially good on Blu-ray. The DVD is the 20th Anniversary Edition disc.

Told by a grandfather (Peter Falk) to his grandson The Princess Bride is the story of the beautiful Buttercup who was in love with farm boy Wesley until he went to seek his fortune and was killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. Prince Humperdink chooses her as his bride-to-be but she is kidnapped by Vizzini and his minions, a giant named Fezzik (Andre the Giant) and swordsman Inigo Montoya (Patinkin) before she is rescued by a man in a black outfit and mask.

Will Inigo Montoya find the man who killed his father and avenge his death? Will Princess Buttercup find true love? Will Vizzini ever figure out the true meaning of the word inconceivable? Will the two greatest swordsmen ever duel again?

Rob Reiner’s movie is many people’s all-time favorite because every aspect of it works: It is a love story, an action and adventure movie, and a comedy. It also features many great secondary characters played by excellent actors such as Billy Crystal, Carol Kane, and Peter Cook.

Some Blu-ray releases are not worth the extra buckage. This one is if only for the superior picture quality but also for the fact the DVD version comes with.

The easter egg on The Princess Bride Blu-ray is found in the set up. Press the down arrow until you highlight the fleur-de-lys. You get a short feature on the make-up for Professor Rawscey.  I do not know if there are more.
