Marley is not a dog. Previews of Marley & Me often made it look like a remake of Beethoven where Owen Wilson played yet another dumb blonde guy. This is proof again previews are misleading advertising. Marley & Me is a touching, intelligent family movie though parental advice will be needed if your kid is on the sensitive side. The Marley & Me Blu-ray comes with the DVD version, a digital copy, and extra features of course.
Marley & Me is based on the story of Florida journalist turned columnist John Grogan (Owen Wilson), his wife and fellow journalist Jenny (Jennifer Aniston). The young couple, not quite ready for a child and unsure of their parenting skills decide to get a dog as the first member of their family. They adopt Marley, the runt of the litter and a very independent minded dog.
Marley teaches John and Jenny Grogan a few life lessons without being didactic about it. As the Grogan family grows, Marley grows older until one day the Grogans are ready to face life on their own. Marley also shows the viewer how being yourself is important.
Yes, there are scenes in Marley and Me where the dog destroys furniture or where John is chasing after the dog but this is not what the movie is about. This is a family oriented Blu-ray with a story just about everybody in the family except perhaps the very young ones can enjoy.
This being a movie about real people, there are a couple of scenes about adult topics but nothing especially shocking unless you are part of a Bible belt cult. For example, there is a scene where the Grogans are skinny dipping though there is not nudity involved.
110 minutes is a bit on the long side for a family movie but Marley & Me sustains your interest and is worth the time you invest in it.Special Features:
