A long long time ago in a media world far far away Saturday mornings were cartoon time. Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s Volume 1 is a 2 DVD 33 Hanna Barbera cartoon collection. Anyone who remembers having to get up to change channels on the TV, sugary cereal with more sugar than cereal, and being warned about the dangers of sitting too close to the TV will enjoy Volume 1 of Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s.
This 2 DVD cartoon collection has a title card before the menu warning viewers that the cartoons here are not pristine and may show signs of age. Fair enough. Most of the programs here are basic VHS quality with some dust and particles here and there. Worse for wear usually are the opening sequences to some shows. The Porky Pig Show and the Peter Potamus Show are good examples Aside from that, there is a 10 second sequence in the Winsome Witch cartoon that really shows wear and tear.
Included on Saturday Morning Cartoons 1960s are an episode from season one of The Jetsons, a Flintstones cartoon with the original music only opening, Top Cat, Atom Ant / Precious Pupp / Hillbilly Bears, The Peter Potamus Show with Breezy and Sneezy and Yippee, Yappee, and Yahooie, Secret Squirrel / Squiddly Diddly / Winsome Witch, The Flintstones (featuring the original opening), The Porky Pig Show, The Quick Draw McGraw Show with Snooper & Blabber and Augie Doggie.
I especially enjoyed seeing Secret Squirrel, Atom Ant, and Precious Pupp
Lesser known –to me anyway—on this 2 DVD set include Marine Boy, Space Ghost and Dino Boy, The Herculoids, Frankenstein Jr., and The Impossibles. They kind of prove that if you don’t remember the cartoon from your childhood, the interest is not really going to be there now.
1960s Saturday Morning Cartoons DVD 2 includes a bonus episode of The Quick Draw McGraw Show with Snooper & Blabber and Augie Doggie, a short feature titled The Herculoids: The First Family from Planet Quasar, and a short feature on The Impossibles and Frankenstein Jr. All this in the special features section.
