With Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween, no other movie has so marked a generation of horror movie fans as Friday the 13th. The debate as to which of these three horror classics is best could be measured on a sequel scale and even then it becomes difficult. This Friday the 13th Blu-ray is the 2009 version of this classic or the 12th sequel, depending on how you look at it. It is a very, very good one.
You have to question the honesty of the studio for not mentioning this anywhere on the packaging, especially since as these things go it is better than most of this franchise’s sequels I remember seeing.
Warning: Clips may contain spoilers.
Friday the 13th clip 1 Mike
If you like slice and dice epics you are going to enjoy Friday the 13th 2009. The plot here is thinner than rain-soaked blood but what matters in a horror movie like this is the number of victims and how they come to a brutal end. This Blu-ray gets a pretty good splatter, chop-chop, and kill score.
This version of Friday the 13th opens with a flashback to 1980 where Mrs. Vorhees pursues a counselor before meeting her demise. Some thirty years later a bunch of young people looking for a pot plantation come across Camp Crystal Lake. Stab kill splat splat: something happens to them.
Friday the 13th clip 5 Someone's Been Here
Clay, one of the girls’ brother shows up to investigate. He happens to meet some teenagers staying at a cabin nearby and will run into them a bit later on after they have met Jason. Chop blood gush chop blood gush chop.
Not to play spoiler but this Friday the 13th follows the basic rules of horror movies so whichever girl is first to take her top off gets killed first and whichever guy tells a horror story gets killed first too. Don’t these people go to the movies?
All in all, this horror movie will please fans of the genre and pleasantly surprise those who had given up on the Friday the 13th franchise. The “Killer Cut” features 8 more minutes than the 98-minute theatrical version.
The Friday the 13th Killer Cut Blu-ray Disc contains the following special features: Rebirth of Jason Vorhees - In-depth look at the reintroduction of a Horror Legend; Additional Scenes; PIP with Trivia Track - Test your knowledge of the blood, guts, and gore with a trivia track spanning the entire franchise, featuring exclusive behind the scenes footage from the film.
