The Spectacular Spider-Man The Complete First Season 2 DVD set features all 13 episodes. It was also released in four separate volumes, something the commercial at the beginning tries to sell you on (duh!). That aside, even this 67 Spider-Man purist must admit this new Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon really is cool, way cool.
The Spectacular Spider-Man features a high-school aged Peter Parker. Foes like Rhino and Dr. Octopus are however ageless. New to me villains like Tombstone and Vulture pale in comparison. Episode10 and on feature a sort of nemesis Black Cat who also goes to Peter Parker’s school and has a crush on Parker. The episodes on this Complete First Season Spider-man DVD set are connected so you do miss something if you miss an episode. The later Season One episodes borrow the black gunk plotline from the Spider-man 3 movie with a twist.
This cartoon opens with Peter Parker, already Spider-Man, starting a new school year. It also introduces a villain that will show up a few times in Season One, Vulture. The first show really kicks action butt as hired thugs are after Spidey as he is after the baddie. This pretty much sets the tone for the rest of this cartoon.
This 2 DVD cartoon set features the origins of the over-acting Electro (episode 2), Shocker, Rhino (episode 6) and a few other villains like the Green Goblin and Dr. Octopus. This gets a bit repetitive, especially if you watch the episodes back to back.
Especially good are the episodes on the second The Spectacular Spider-Man The Complete First Season DVD. They introduce a very interesting and original semi-villain, Black Cat. They also feature the Spider-Man 3 black ooze and kind of repeat that story but it’s not that annoying.
If you like action cartoons, this one is a good bet.
