Ice Age 3 - Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Manny, Ellie, Eddie
Diego, Crash and Eddie, Buck
Directed by Carlos Saldanha and Mike Thurmeier
Fox Home Entertainment 2009
94 minutes

Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs kicks ice. This time, this animated movie is a lot more gag oriented and the story meanders a bit. If you are familiar with and enjoy the pratfalls of the golden age Looney Tunes cartoons, there is a lot to like on this DVD. There are also quite a few pretty good action scenes The second DVD in the 2 DVD set or on the Blu-ray features two Scrat short features and these are absolutely great even if already familiar to Scrat fans

Though this is a family DVD, I am not totally convinced Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs is good enough to keep the little ones interested and there are some really scary scenes if your tyke is particularly sensitive. If you are not a kid, this is a very enjoyable cartoon.

Ice Age 3 begins with Manny and Ellie (Ray Romano and Queen Latifah, a great on screen couple) expecting their first. This makes Sid feel a bit left out and wanting a family of his own. He finds some eggs and when they hatch the baby dinosaurs bond with hi. The mommy dinosaur comes to rescue her kids, takes Eddie along, and the gang, including Diego and Crash and Eddie. They encounter a new character, Buck (voiced by Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead).

Lots of stuff happens, some interesting, some featuring great animation, some very funny, and sometimes all three at the same time.

Scrat the acorn chasing sabertooth squirrel shows up from time to time when the action gets bogged down.

Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs did not have the same kind of budget as the first two and is sometimes shows in some of the graphics though there are some really gorgeous scenes and the dogfight is superb.. The story itself is weak but most of the time this DVD has enough jokes and gags to keep you interested.

The commentary track on the Ice Age 3 DVD or Blu-ray is particularly moronic and pointless. Are these schmucks even watching the bleeping movie?
