If you have a first generation Blu-ray player, the Half Blood Prince Harry Potter Blu-ray may not load. Something about interference from the BD Live or Maximum Movie Mode segments of the disc. This said, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the sixth and penultimate movie in the series is slow going if you are not very familiar with the story arc to this series. Then again, if you are watching this Blu-ray, it is because you are a fan of Rowling’s series.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has the hero, Hermione, and Ron in their sophomore year at Hogwarts. The battle against Voldemort and the death eaters is raging. Malfoy is a troubled individual Snape (Alan Rickman) has vowed to protect. More is learned about former student Tom Riddle (Voldemort) and something is learned that could help Harry and Dumbledore in destroying Voldemort.
There are also love interests developing though that is a very secondary part of the story. Where this Harry Potter movie kind of fails is in sustaining the interest of those who are not true aficionados of the series. There is a lot of plodding about before stuff happens and when it does you know you would enjoy it better if you knew what it all means in the grand scheme of things.
This Harry Potter Blu-ray is on the dark side. Especially the images which, even on a HDTV for you to augment the brightness levels to see what is going on.
I still think Helena Bonham Carter steals the show as Bellatrix Lestrange and wish Rowling had give her more to do in the books so we would see more of her in the film adaptations.
