Jennifer's Body
Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons
Directed by Karyn Kusama
Fox Home Entertainment 2009
102 and 107 minutes

Jennifer’s Body is a very good and original semi-horror movie. The director’s commentary track suggests it is supposed to be a dark comic horror DVD. It does have darkly comic and very satirical moments (“It mustbe true. I read it on Wikipedia.”). Penned by Juno’s Diablo Cody and directed by Aeon Flux’s Karyn Kusama, Jennifer’s Body brings something new to the teen horror movie genre.

The story is told by Needy (Amanda Seyfried) who is best friends with school hottie Jennifer (Megan Fox). The girls go to the local bar. The bar catches fire. The girls escape but many people die. Jennifer gets a ride with the band that was playing the bar. When she comes back, she is not quite the same. As Needy puts it, “Jennifer’s evil. She’s actually evil, not high school evil.”

Needy and Jennifer eventually have a showdown. Even that classic horror movie scene is on the original side.

Jennifer’s Body walks a fine line between your standard horror flick and comedy horror. The line gets blurred occasionally and the movie does not always sustain both. It is however a lot of fun to watch.
