Stagate Atlantis - The Complete Series Collection
Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Tori Higginson
5 seasons 26 DVD
MGM Home Entertainment 2010

Stargate Atlantis The Complete Series Collection features all 5 seasons on 25 DVD, a bonus DVD with a couple of features:xMission 100 Atlantis Reaches a Milestone and Stargate Atlantis A Retrospective. Special features on each DVD are a commentary track for most episodes in seasons 2 to 5 and many season 1 shows; photo galleries; and the usual behind the scenes stuff.

The only criticism for Stargate Atlantis The Complete Series Collection is the packaging. Each season comes in a cardboard foldout like you normally get. The box is 2 box sets wide, making storage a bit of a problem.

If there had been a reason for this such as making it look like a logbook (for example The Shield The Complete Series) with pictures and so on, the extra wide box would make sense.

Stargate Atlantis opens with a two-part show titled Rising. Humans have discovered an outpost of earth’s previous inhabitants in the arctic. It too has a gate thing that allows people to travel to another point in space, the Pegasus galaxy. An expedition force led by Elizabeth Weir goes through. It includes flyboy and series main character John Sheppard. They discover this spot is the lost city of Atlantis and it can fly. They are also disconnected from Earth for a long while. They encounter the series baddies, the Wraith, and the series’ good guys, the Athosians.

Unlike other TV science fiction shows, Stargate Atlantis features more human humans from more than just the U.S. and they have a sense of humor. The show itself has a sense of fun and drops the odd mention of other SF shows.

One of the best characters in the series is resident genius and geek Rodney, who just happens to be Canadian.

You also have to like the fact not every main character is made from the instant noble hero mold. Look for Colm Meaney of Star Trek fame in "Underground" Season 1 DVD 2
