The Spectacular Spider-Man - Volume 8
Peter Parker, J. Jonah Jameson, Black Cat
Green Goblin, Chameleon, Molten Man
3 Episodes 1 DVD
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment 2010

Volume 8 of The Spectacular Spider-Man DVD series includes 3 connected episodes: Subtext, Opening Night, and Final Curtain. Villain wise there is good ol' Chameleon, the wonderful Gren Goblin, and a new baddie, Molten Man who looks like a relative of The Torch. This is fun stuff of course with the occasional message tossed in. The episodes on this DVD are season 2  episodes 11, 12, and 13 and the last in the series.

I do not know what high school Peter Parker goes to but the students there sure do get in serious trouble. One of them is Black Cat, another is a baddie, and now the brother of Peter's love interest gets in trouble and becomes Molten Man. This is the Subtext story told in flashbacks.

Opening Night refers in part to the school play. It opens with Spider-man trying to break out of a new high security prison to test it, Goblin sort of helping him so he can get into trouble, and Back Cat breaking into the prison. The mixing of Midsummer Night's Dream and the Spider-man story is a lot of fun and extremely well done.

Final Curtain marks the end of The Spectacular Spider-man. This is, to say the least, an explosive finale. The Goblin's identity is revealed tough the writers really have you guessing for a long, long time.

It is hard to understand why The Spectacular Spider-man was not renewed but there you go. Volume 8 features the last 3 episodes in the series and no special features of any kind.
